9/8 - 10:  We've been starving for some place to go or something else to do this fall month. Local fishing is available, but the rivers remain clogged with guides and their clients due to limited stream flows everywhere.

Research online suggested trying one of two small aged homes on the Rolling R Ranch outside of Meeker.  As they sit next to the South Fork of the White, we thought this might be worthwhile trying.  Despite the fact that we have a nicely usable camper conversion once the weather cools down as much as it has lately, the thought of getting out of a warm sleeping bag in the morning has chilled us as much as the weather itself has changed.

So off we went on a somewhat expensive two night VRBO stay at the "Rock" house.  It is indeed a pretty old structure, but the interior is well kept and fully loaded with anything a guest could want for cooking and general use.  It turned out to be an enjoyable couple of days.  We ate well in the house, had a Direct TV link for a few hours of television, and the outside field area was expansive and fun to take the dogs for their walks.  The adjacent pasture had a couple of friendly mares who came over to let us rub their coats despite our doggies verbal protests.

Wish I had something positive to say about the fishing on the South, but it really wasn't great.  Part of the problem is that my aging balance creates issues on a slippery and very rocky streambed.  Couple that with thunderstorm weather during the afternoon I did some casting, and the handful of foot longish rainbows I released, made for an indifferent experience.

Probably the best fun we had was hiking the nice set of BLM trails on the edge of the town of Meeker.  There were a good variety of them, and they were great for the dogs to get their exercise too.  So not a bad trip in all.  Here's a short video of what we did:
