(10/1 - 8)
Back to Alphonse Island for roughly the tenth time+ since 2016
Have to admit I'm addicted to the experience I get every time I return to Alphonse despite absolutely hating the flight/layovers time to get there. This year was a bit of an exception to the quality of the stay due to difficult tides and way too much turtle grass clogging some of flats where I've historically found lots of fish.
So we can call it a mixed bag. The accommodations were still fine despite some modest changes to the bungalows, and the food is always exceptional. The staff of South Africans and native Seychellois are as nice as they can be.
In retrospect I will admit that the overall fishing quality has clearly declined since we first made landfall here in 2016. Don't have an explanation for that problem. The guide service only offers resort fishing guests a maximum of twelve rods a day at the primary fishing grounds at St. Francois, and while some other of the leisure guests must also fish guided or solo around Alphonse itself, because it's a "catch and release" only resort, I don't know why the numbers and quality of the hookups are declining so much.
The fairly short video that follows will touch on a bit of all of the above:
