The review. An in-depth analysis of new and existing restaurants in the Vail Valley.
On
12/13/12 we tried the new Tapas restaurant Leonora..
Located in the recently renamed and remodeled Sebastian Hotel, Leonora was a revelation for us.
The facility is beautifully laid out with a variety of seating arrangements from conventional booths to a counter ringing the bar area in front of a two story circular wine rack containing several hundred bottles of fine wine. We chose a high table for two.
Table settings are modern and simple with good flatware and stemware. The platings of all our courses were outstanding as well.
With a menu completely different from what we're used to at other upscale restaurants in this ski town, every item we sampled was delicious.
Having recently returned from a trip to Spain where we enjoyed some wonderful tapas plates at several fine dining spots in that country, it was fascinating to see the different "takes" on classic tapas dishes here compared to those in Europe.
Highlights: Basically everything. Simple, but nicely focused wine
list. Good bread plate with Spanish dipping oil. Tapas were all
perfect. A Frisee salad as well. This is the first
rating I've ever given in Vail.
Lowlights: None worth noting. The wait person was clearly new at the job, but other than that we had no complaints.

NOTE THAT THE CHEF WAS CHANGED RECENTLY AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN BACK TO REVIEW THE OPERATION SINCE THAT OCCURRED.
